Do we really need to defend our food?

I completed reading, "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollen not long ago.  It seems that we are in such a dilemma with food now-a-days -- what to eat, what not to eat, is it fattening or is it good for you.  But, the author emphasizes the importance of eating foods that contain plants and foods that our grandmothers would recognize to be food.  As Mr. Pollen puts it, we seem to be eating "edible food like substances", no longer the products of nature, but of food science.  It is definitely worth a read so as to become more informed of what we really buy when we go to the grocery store.....
